There are many strange creatures that roam the lands of Permius, each one unique in their own ways. Over the years, many evolve different traits, whether it be strength or speed or armor. Some, however, develop different traits, which many consider to be unnatural. Many creatures in this world have developed more magical abilities to aid in hunting or hiding. Some of these are a more direct sort, while others, like that possessed by hybrin, are more passive in their role.
Hybrin, like some rare other creatures, exude an aura of sorts, which shapes their environment. When a hybrin feels threatened, they will passively create an aura of dread and unease around them. This puts anything close by on edge. The bigger the creature, the less its effect. For smaller bugs, it would literally paralyze them with fear. For a gopher, it would cause immense panic. Humans are made incredibly uneasy, and develop a feeling as if they’re being watched. Larger beasts, like craalnax would hardly notice such things, and may simply feel slightly more alert than usual.
Hybrin live on the northern continent of Gourment, as well as some of the islands of Baldin with whom Gourment conducts trade. Within these lands, hybrin tend to prefer more temperate climates. They do not long for the bitter cold of winter, nor the sweltering heat of summer. Therefore, they tend to be more common in Dundra and Rachez during the summer, and in Mendor and Mornaq during the winter.
These bugs measure about 25-30cm in length for smaller varieties, but can be as many as 50cm long. They have a dark chitin, and two large, black eyes, which add to their uneasy presence. They’re not known to be a threat to humans, and typically hunt other bugs, or even small lizards. Regardless of their harmless nature, many consider them to be a bad omen.
