Wyverns are among the most common of dragons. These types of dragons originated in the northern mountains of Gourment, and are considered to be the original dragon. By the time of the Dragon Wars, wyverns exist primarily in the mountains of Gourment, and the north of Ilgondrin. Wyverns are a terrible sight, and strike fear into the hearts of all among the northern peoples, especially those that live by the mountains.
Wyverns are distinct from other types of dragons, in that they only have four limbs: two hind legs, and two winged appendages. Most other dragons have four legs, but these remain an exception. This both serves as a hindrance and an advantage. For one, this means that to swipe at an enemy with their claws, they need to bring their wings close or expose their belly, neither of which are preferable. On the other hand, having arm and wing combined makes everything far more condensed, and thus makes their body lighter, and more agile.
The wyverns of the north, which live most often in the mountains, typically breathe fire. Some smaller variants live in plain-like expanses, and are far smaller in size. These few breathe hot air, which is only truly deadly if up close.
It is a wyvern that is the main culprit behind the Burning of Curva, of which you can read in its entirety HERE.
