Kren
Kren are an interesting species in Permius, and are often mistaken for insects. These creatures are very bug-like in appearance, but they’re often quite a bit bigger, and host elemental features. In size, they range from about 5cm-20cm in length, and are at most half that in their height. The main difference that sets them apart though is their elemental tendencies. You can find these “bugs” swimming in the ocean, with a silvery skin that ripples like the waves, hence named ‘waterkren’. Others are found in woodlands, and have a bark-like exterior. Those featured in Shilan have a chitin that appears delicate and flakey, hence their name ‘ashkren’.
Ashkren
Ashkren are found all throughout Permius, on each and every continent. What sets these apart from their other kin is that they don’t need to be near the element they mimic. While waterkren live by water, and woodkren are near woodlands, ashkren aren’t necessarily near ash. They find mounds of rock and mud, which are often created by other insects in the world, and they proceed to burrow through them with their “beak”. The mechanism behind this is still unknown, but it seems to rapidly vibrate back and forth. Ashkren, though completely uninterested in humans, will defend themselves when threatened. Considering this burrows through rock, you don’t want it trying on your skin. Many insects are valued for something in a variety of cultures, but kren are quite consistently left alone.
